Announcement: New Director of the Orfalea Center

Please join us in congratulating Professor Paul Amar on this exciting opportunity as the new Director of the Orfalea Center for Global & International Studies:

With great pleasure and enthusiasm, I write to announce that I have named Professor Paul Amar, Professor of Global Studies, as the next Director of the Orfalea Center for Global Studies. Amar is a consummate theorist of issues related to violence, security, race and religion and a seasoned area specialist, with a strong command of the languages, histories and cultural-political processes in at least two major world areas. He is a tireless organizer of scholarly programs and a creative catalyst for collaborative research, talents from which our global, international and area studies intellectual communities will now have the opportunity to benefit.  I also want to express my deep and sincere thanks to Professor Michael Stohl of the Communications Department for his fine leadership of the Orfalea Center in years past; Michael leaves the Center on strong footing, well prepared for the ambitious plans and high expectations we have for global studies in the years to come, as we look to better understand and engage the high stakes issues of our troubled world.
