The core program in Sikh and Punjab Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara comprises of three components:
A set of undergraduate and graduate courses reconstruct the evolution of the Sikh tradition from its inception in the sixteenth century to the present times.
History and Culture of the Punjab
These courses trace the history and culture of the region of Punjab by situating the related developments within the larger context of the cultures of India, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
The language aspect serves as the foundation of the program and Punjabi language courses are offered at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. These courses will also be available online from Fall 2012.
In the years ahead, we hope to expand our course offerings by inviting distinguished visiting faculty and creating opportunities for advanced graduate students to teach courses in the area of their research.
