SOUTH ASIA STUDIES MAJOR - ABOUT

UCSB has the second largest number of faculty specializing in South Asia Studies in the University of California system (after UC Berkeley). The South Asia Studies Program at UCSB offers several South Asia languages, including Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. The faculty focusing on South Asia religion is the largest in the western region of the United States. A South Asia Studies Group currently provides a programmatic focus for students and faculty interested in South Asia Studies. The group also serves as a planning committee for a proposed major in South Asia studies.
