PROGRAMS
SOUTH ASIA STUDIES MAJOR - AIIS SERVICES AVAILABLE TO STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS IN INDIA

global peace

The American Institute of Indian Studies is authorized by the Government of India to approve the issuance of visas to undergraduate students traveling to India for study-abroad programs and for both undergraduate and graduate students traveling to India for language study.

In addition, the Institute can provide a wide variety of services that may be needed by educational programs in India, from local housing and travel arrangements to well-qualified teachers in all fields of Indian studies.

Visa authorization fees:

1. For one student, $175
2. For up to five students, $125 per student
3. More than five students, $100 per student

AIIS requires:

1. information about each student in a pre- scribed format, including an undertaking signed by the program coordinator certifying that repatriation is the responsibility of the program;

2. a one-page description of the program in India (describe the program as the AIIS-x institution program in India if AIIS is to provide institutional affiliation); and

3. reports upon arrival and before departure from each program participant.

Notes: Programs to be held in areas treated as sensitive by the Government of India will require Government approval. Students may not change programs after visas are issued.

Student visas may initially be valid for periods of from 3 to 15 months from date of issue (not date of arrival in India) and may be extended for a period of not more than 3 months.

Other AIIS Services:

AIIS visa authorization includes assistance with Police Registration, when that is required, assistance in emergencies, such as medical care, hospitalization, or repatriation, and continuous contact with program participants and coordinators in case of security alerts.

Students affiliated with AIIS are eligible for admission to National Heritage sites, such as the Taj Mahal, at inexpensive rates rather than the tourist rates paid by foreigners.

AIIS can also provide administrative support for study-abroad programs in India, including such areas as academic programs, travel and logistic support, banking and financial management, and AIIS staff accompaniment. These services are provided at negotiated fees.
