LUCE PROJECT ON RELIGION IN GLOBAL CIVIL SOCIETY

2009 NETWORKING WORKSHOP

May 2, 2009
University of California, Santa Barbara

This workshop will be devoted to networking among representatives of international affairs programs in the US (most of them APSIA programs) that offer international NGO leadership training. Although very few international affairs programs offer a track specifically called “international NGO training,” several offer specializations that are meant to include, primarily or secondarily, students who are seeking international NGO careers. Graduate programs in human rights are also offered at several institutions both in the USA and overseas.

The focus of the workshop will be the role of religion in the study of international affairs, with reference especially to the graduate programs in international NGO training that will be represented. Although many of these international affairs programs have tracks and emphases that provide training for international NGO careers, at present there is little opportunity for the faculty leaders of these programs to meet and learn from one another. We hope that this workshop will provide a stimulating occasion for connecting scholars and programs in this area.
