Aga Khan Development Network
 http://www.akdn.org/index.html

Founded and currently headed by Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the AGA Khan Development Network is a group of 10 private organizations that seek to empower communities and individuals to improve living conditions and opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East.   With origins resting upon the tradition of service observed by the Shia Imami Muslims, AKDN is primarily concerned with the fields of health, education, rural development, microfinance, humanitarian assistance and planning and building services.   Each member organization seeks to reach people without access to services, in a complementary manner that does not substitute the efforts of government and other providers.  In recent years the Network has expended an annual average of $300 million for non-profit activities.  Funding is provided by the Imamat and by the Ismaili Community as well as by international and local donor agencies.
