CENTERS & PROGRAMS

International Society for Third Sector Research
http://www.istr.org/about/inst.htm

Founded in 1992, this Baltimore, MD- based organization seeks to promote academic research and scholarship on the third sector internationally, and to enhance dissemination of such academic pursuit worldwide. Special emphasis has been focused in recent years on expanding the number of researchers in developing nations and Eastern Europe. The board membership (of whom no more than two of nine elected members may be from the same country,) expanded several years ago to 15.  Helmut K Anheier (Director of UCLA’s School of Public Affairs,) is a member.  In 2006, ISTSR counted 675 international members, of whom 32% represented the Asia/Pacific regions (majority.)  Total revenue for 2006 of 465,028 was offset by expenditures for the same year of 378,611.  Jacqueline Butcher is president; Margery Berg Daniels is the executive director. Of possible interest is the article in ISTSR’s publication, Voluntas, entitled: “Paying for God’s Work: A rights-based examination of faith based NGO’s in Romania”
