Center for HIV/AIDs Networking (The Centre for HIV and AIDS Networking (HIVAN)
http://www.hivan.org.za/aidsdatasearchadvanced.asp

Founded in 2001 with contributions from both the Atlantic Philanthropies and the Carnegie Corporation of New York, this grassroots-supportive organization centers its focus on catalyzing and enhancing the research and capabilities that address the dilemma posed to populations affected with HIV or AIDS.  Centered geographically in Durban, South Africa, HIVAN runs a database specifically designed to help organizations network with each other to fight AIDS and HIV.  Features 3,500 organizations including faith-based and NGO participants.

Additionally, HIVAN runs multiple networking forums (of special interest is the Faith-based Leaders and HIV/AIDS Researchers Forum,) and a call center, HIV911 that disseminates knowledge and provides support to the stricken and sympathetic with a promise of confidentiality and anonymity.

HIVAN is composed of three Units, namely: Biomedical Research; Social Science Research and Communications, Arts and Advocacy (Which incorporates the Networking Unit) To facilitate a multidisciplinary approach, HIVAN’s research agenda is led by Professor Hoosen (Jerry) Coovadia (Biomedical Sciences) and Professor Eleanor Preston-Whyte (Social and Behavioral Sciences). HIVAN’s management board is chaired by Professor Ahmed Bawa, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Production).
