KAPANY CHAIR IN GLOBAL AND SIKH STUDIES AT UCSB
The Global Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for the endowed Kundan Kaur Kapany Chair in Global and Sikh Studies, with an appointment date of July 1, 2018. The department seeks a distinguished professor with an international scholarly reputation for a tenured, full-professor appointment to be housed in global studies and possibly jointly in another department appropriate to the chairholder’s expertise.
Applicants must have an exemplary record of research and teaching in fields related to the study of Sikhism in its global context, including the historical development of the tradition and its contemporary social and cultural variations around the world. The Department of Global Studies offers B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in the field, and focuses on the transnational, interdisciplinary and critical study of globalization in its social, cultural, political, economic, and other dimensions. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, a commitment to the fields of global and Sikh studies, and an understanding of the Sikh community.
The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position.
