Decolonizing The Mind Newsletter

Fusion of Amsterdam Decolonizing The Mind Summer School with Barcelona Summer school on Decolonizing Power and Knowledge The International Institute for Scientific Research (IISR) in The Netherlands led by Sandew Hira and the Center of Study and Investigation for Decolonial Dialogues (CSIDD) in Spain led by Ramon Grosfoguel have been cooperating for a while on topics like the production and dissemination of decolonial knowledge. IISR organizes the Decolonizing The Mind Summer School in Amsterdam and CSIDD organizes the Decolonizing Power and Knowledge Summer School in Barcelona. The organizations have decided to fuse the two Summer Schools together so that from 2016 there is one Summer School on Decolonizing Power, Knowledge and the Mind. The Summer School will be held in Barcelona, so the venue in Amsterdam will not be available. The topic of Decolonizing The Mind is now integrated in the Summer School in Barcelona in lectures and workshops.

A decolonial approachto Montesque in Suriname

Montesque's concept of the separation of powers is hailed as an important achievement in political thought by Scientific Colonialism. But how does this concept work when applied to countries that have been rocked by political violence? Does the judiciary become part of the political struggle and does Montesque?s approach increases political instability rather than solving it? IISR director Sandew Hira has started a project called The testimony of president Bouterse to deal with political violence in the former Dutch colony of Suriname in the period 1980-1992.
