Yenly
Thach
Yenly grew up in a diverse culture. She was born in a refugee camp in
Thailand where she lived until she was eight years old and immigrated to
America. Life was challenging, yet rewarding, growing up in America.
Yenly did her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa
Cruz. She graduated with honors in Community Studies in 2005 with an emphasis
in refugees, immigrants and social justice. Yenly drew on the knowledge
and personal experiences gained during her internships with the Cambodian
Association of America in Long Beach, California and Immigrants and Refugee
Service at St. Rita in Bronx, New York to write her undergraduate thesis
on Cambodian Immigrants in America.
Upon completion of her bachelor’s degree, Yenly volunteered for two years with the Peace Corps, in a rural Costa Rican town. Her Peace Corps work focused on Youth, Children and Families. She then worked with 2 different non-profit organizations in San Diego, California; first as a Life Skills Facilitator for foster youth and then as a Program Specialist and Case Manager for at-risk-youth. In her free time, Yenly loves to go to the beach and to practice yoga and Pilates. She is passionate about learning new cultures and languages and hopes to do an internship in Refugee Rights.
