Alanna
Pardee
Alanna was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. She has always appreciated exposure to life outside the U.S., as she is a dual- citizen of the Republic of San Marino. She graduated with a BA in Sociology from the University of Toledo in May. While in college she was fortunate to study abroad twice including a year at the University of Ghana at Legon, and a semester in Bangalore, India. Through these experiences Alanna has been inspired by the work of international NGOs and grassroots development projects.
Alanna’s research interests include environmental education and sustainability, women’s issues, human rights and NGOs. She is also interested in the preservation of indigenous environmental knowledge through linguistics. One day, she hopes to combine her advocacy for social and environmental causes and her love of travel. Alanna traveled to Africa for her internship at the Namib Desert Environmental Educational Trust (NaDEET),in Nambia during the summer/fall of 2009.
Alanna enjoys playing soccer, riding her bike, playing Frisbee golf, vegetarian cooking, hiking and reading. Website: www.uweb.ucsb.edu/~apardee/
