Candidate Profiles
MAGIS Candidates, 2008 - 2010

Namrata GidwaniNamrata (Nams) Gidwani

Nams Gidwani was born in India and has been in the US for six years. She attended UC Santa Barbara for her undergraduate work and graduated in 2007 with a double major in Global Studies and Dramatic Art.

Nams has always had a passion for traveling and experiencing different cultures. She spent her junior year studying abroad at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom. There, she actively participated in the Model United Nations club and visited seven different countries. During the summer before her senior year she interned at the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation here in Santa Barbara. The Foundation’s main goal is to educate today’s youth on the dangers of nuclear weapons development and help build a community to actively advocate for non-proliferation. During this internship she participated in an eight day trip to New Mexico researching weapons development and the impact it has on the area’s residents.

Nams is also extremely interested in human rights and the rights of refugees around the world and in the future hopes to pursue a career in this field. Through MAGIS, she will gain a deeper understanding of international issues and believes that the program will provide an excellent foundation for her future goals.
