Kelly
Burns
Kelly graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2007 in Global Studies with an emphasis on Socio Economics and Latin America. Her background was varied as she and her family (employed by the US State Department) traveled globally throughout her childhood. After fleeing Liberia during the civil war, she began attending international schools in India, middle school in El Salvador, and high school in Morocco. As an undergraduate, she studied abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico to research the roots of civil unrest and politics.
Kelly has volunteered for several non-profits, such as the Alliance to Save Energy, interned in Germany for the G8 summit conference, organized a retreat for Homegrown Revolution, and supported evicted families of Isla Vista, CA by organizing a tent city for the displaced tenants, as well as other activities.
She entered the MAGIS program because she is interested in continuing her explorations of labor inequality, health issues, environmental issues, and developing strategies for resolving global problems.
