MAGIS Candidates, 2007 - 2009

Joshua SteeleJoshua Steele

Joshua Steele is from the old and distant world of England where people still sip tea with the Queen in fine china cups and talk about the good old days. After growing up in Winchester and moving all around the London suburbs he went to University in Plymouth and  studied for his B.A. in Geography. His interest in world politics developed further and urged him to leave the shivery shores and cross the pond to sunny Santa Barbara to study his M.A.

Before embarking on this current chapter of his life he took a year off to travel Latin America and experience the cultural delights that come with dodgy border crossings into Ecuador and the sights of Rio.  This experience confirmed Josh's choice to study global studies and help to expand his understanding of global issues.

Josh’s global interests are focused on Latin America and Africa and he hopes that his M.A. will help further his understandings of the political, social and economic issues that blight these continents.  Josh has an instilled interest in bettering the lives of people around the world. He is increasingly interested in the use of film to spread awareness and action on political issues around the world.

Josh will be interning this summer at the Clinton Global Initiative's Communications department in Manhattan. He is enjoying the challenges of working in New York for the summer. He then intends to secure a placement working in Africa for the fall portion of his  internship.
