Loan
Pham
Loan Pham graduated from the University of the Pacific in 2006 with a double major in International Relations and Political Science with a minor in French.
Her humble childhood in a rural village in Central Viet Nam continues to
be her inspiration to explore and understand this ever-complex world
of global interdependency. Thus,
Loan is very excited to have the opportunity to further enrich her knowledge
of international relations through UC Santa Barbara’s MAGIS program.
Her research interests are a complex labyrinth of her past living and working experiences consisting of strategic politico-military cooperation, neo-colonial dependency and political development, plus peace and conflict studies. Loan is conducting research on these critical issues while studying in Kazakhstan through the NSEP fellowship program, at the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics, and Strategic Research for intensive language studies in Kazakh and Russian.
She is also analyzing developments in U.S.-Kazakh political-military relations, more specifically NATO and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Aside from academic matters, she teaches English, volunteers around the community, and loves to explore Almaty and go on food rampages at the bazaar every few days. In the fall, she will return to UC Santa Barbara to complete her final year and M.A. degree.
