Candidate Profiles
MAGIS Candidates, 2007 - 2009

Loan PhamLoan Pham

Loan graduated from the University of the Pacific in 2006 with a double major in International Relations and Political Science and a minor in French Language and Literature. She spent 2004-2005 in Switzerland and Sénégal studying regional politics and undertaking intensive language training in French and Wolof.

As a MAGIS student and National Security Education Program fellow, Loan took a leave-of-absence in 2008 to study in Central Asia. She completed intensive language studies in Kazakh and Russian at the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics and Strategic Research as well as conducted research on Central Asian security institutionalism (more specifically, NATO and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization).

To satisfy her deep passion for global cultures and local street food, Loan likes spontaneous solo travels to random, isolated corners of the earth, preferably in the developing world.
