Le
Caroline Le graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and a minor in philosophy from UC Irvine. As part of her undergraduate experience, she was awarded a grant to conduct research on first and second generation Vietnamese immigrants. Her interest in immigration issues and human rights was, in large part, influenced by her own family's experiences. Having spent six months studying abroad in the Netherlands further sparked her desire to pursue a career in the international arena. This experience exposed her to new and different cultures and experiences that she could never have imagined growing up in Orange County, CA.
Through the MAGIS program, Caroline hopes to gain the tools and perspectives necessary to work in and between intergovernmental organizations to pursue a common goal guaranteeing that all human beings, especially those who are fleeing corrupt and oppressive governments, are granted an opportunity to live in a free and democratic world.
Caroline is currently interning for VietACT, doing advocacy work on behalf of victims of trafficking and labor exploitation. .VietACT is a grassroots NGO dedicated to eradicating human trafficking worldwide, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia. So far, interning in Taiwan has granted her several opportunities to acquire a better grasp on these issues such as attending an international conference on human trafficking as well help with a documentary film exposing human rights abuses in Southeast Asia. She is also teaching English to victims at the shelter and working on a research project that will focus on the exploitative practices inherent in migrant worker broker systems in Taiwan and Vietnam.
