Studying and working outside of California was a recurring theme for Sami's undergrad years at UC Santa Barbara. She had spent most of her second year studying Italian culture in Rome. Her fourth year consisted of interning for the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon. Afterwards, she attended the University of Leipzig in Germany to study minority rights within the European Union.
From her travels in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe, Sami has become fascinated with refugee rights. As a graduate student, Sami continues to progress in her desire to examine the relationship between the principles of human rights and refugee protection.
Sami is a recipient of the Orfalea Foundation Fellowship with the William J. Clinton Foundation in New York City. She recently finished her internship with the Clinton Global Initiative as a fellow in the commitments department. Sami is currently in Uganda working with the UNHCR's Ninemillion.org campaign.
