Candidate Profiles
MAGIS Candidates, 2007 - 2009

Chris GibsonChris Gibson

Upon graduating with a BA in English from California State University, Channel Islands in 2007, Chris Gibson moved on directly to the M.A. program in Global & International Studies at UC Santa Barbara to pursue his passion for helping people around the world.  After years of analyzing and researching literature he was ready for a change of pace and to start applying the critical skills gained in his undergrad to the study of global service and politics.

While at CSUCI, Chris helped establish and acted as Vice President of the university's first activist club, SMUG (Student Movement for an Understanding of Globalization).  The group's main goal was to cultivate awareness and a dialogue to further the understanding of issues surrounding 'Globalization'.

As an inspired and idealistic citizen of the world, Chris is looking forward to a future in humanitarian work by working with NGOs around the world.  He hopes to be able to work towards minimizing the many negative outcomes of globalization while promoting a mutually beneficial global culture that is healthy for every citizen of every country.  The MAGIS program will provide Chris with a strong academic foundation to kick off his career in the near future, while also helping him focus his area of interest.

Chris is currently engaged in an intensive Arabic language study program in Oman.  Soon he will return from abroad and call New York City home as an Orfalea Foundation Fellow interning at the Clinton Global Initiative before returning to complete his degree in 2009.
