Amberjae Freeman
Amberjae Freeman earned her BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in Global and International Studies with an emphasis in examining socio-economic and political processes in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean. Her undergraduate thesis examined the role of international financial institutions in bolstering sex work in Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
For her Master’s practicum, Amberjae was awarded a Paul Orfalea Research Fellowship, which enabled her to work with the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) in New York City and the Clinton Hunter Development Initiative (CHDI) in Kigali, Rwanda. During her summer in NYC with the Clinton Global Initiative she worked in the Commitments Department monitoring commitments made in the area of Energy and Climate Change.
In Rwanda with the Clinton Hunter Development Initiative, Amberjae assessed the environmental impact of agricultural development schemes; determined financial viability of farmer participation in projects funded under the Clean Development Act (CDM) and reviewed business plans for agricultural business propositions. After graduation Amberjae served as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science and Economics at Santa Barbara City College.
She currently works for the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies, a legal services organization that focuses on Gender-Based asylum claims.
