Amanda earned her BA from the University of California at Los Angeles in International Development Studies, with a focus on the implications of the global political economy in Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Her undergraduate thesis looked at the role of tourism in Thailand's sex industry.
For her Master's practicum, Amanda was awarded an Orfalea fellowship with the William J. Clinton Foundation in New York and Tanzania with the Clinton Global Initiative and the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative respectively. During the summer, she worked in the Commitments department at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) in New York, monitoring milestones and actions for global commitments made by the CGI members in the area of poverty alleviation. After working through the CGI annual conference, Amanda interned with the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative's (CHAI) malaria program in Tanzania, conducting research on the private sector supply chain for anti-malarial drugs.
Amanda is broadly interested in corporate social responsibility and the role of philanthropy in development. Her MA thesis will explore the promises and challenges of pursuing market-based initiatives in public health by examining the effectiveness of the Clinton Foundation's involvement in the Affordable Medicines Facility for Malaria (AMFm).
