LATIN AMERICA & THE CARIBBEAN

The ruins of Tulum on the Caribbean beach, Mexico

The entire project covered three major areas of the world, beginning with Latin America and the Caribbean. The idea was to focus on how religious transformations within each region, including the role that religion played in the non-government non-commercial public sector“civil society.” Latin America and the Caribbean is an interesting region to consider in this regard, since the religious landscape is in transition. The entrenched Roman Catholic hierarchy is challenged both by indigenous religion and Evangelical Protestantism. At the same time, religious institutions provide a large range of social benefits, from education to health care and social services.
