I graduated last year with a cultural and ideological
emphasis and since then I moved to Vienna, where, with a recommendation
from Dominic Sachsenmaier, I started an internship at the
Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) (www.iwm.at).
The IWM is a sort of thinktank where scholars
and journalists come to give lectures and do research. There
are permanent and visiting fellows and they all do research
on Eastern-Western European relations, gender studies, history,
philosophy, etc. While I was at the IWM, I wrote and edited
English articles for their quarterly newsletter and did research
on upcoming lecturers.
I also improved my German and then moved on
to my new job, which is at an organization called Eurozine.
Here I am the Editorial Assistant and I work editing texts
(articles, tables of contents, and summaries) from 51 different
cultural journals all over Europe and putting them onto the
Eurozine website (www.eurozine.com).
Eurozine is a forum where all of these cultural
journals can share their themes and issues with each other,
and where people from all over Europe (and the world) can
view these journals' articles, which are translated into English,
German, and French.
I'm really enjoying my job and I hope everyone
visits the website because I think it's a really good place
to get European views on all the topics that interest all
of us Global Studies people.
So, I just wanted to let you know that I got
a job that my Global Studies major totally prepared me for
(I wasn't too sure that was going to be possible when I graduated)
and I'm having a really great time :-).
