I met up with Keith Nelson in June and he told
me all about the program in Lund. It sounds like you guys
got it up and running and I hope the summer went smoothly.
I guess you spent at least a few weeks there this summer.
As for me I came back from my Latin American journey in April.
It was 8 months of bliss as my girlfriend and I moved about
as we wished. The highlights were Belize, Guatemala, and Colombia
as that is where we found the nicest people and beautiful
nature. We ended it travelling 4 days by bus from Buenos Aires
to Ecuador to catch our plane to New York, which proved to
be a grand introduction to the good old USofA.
After spending a month with my family in Ukiah
I came to reside in the big bad city of Los Angeles, an intimidating
inconvient place to say the least, to be close to girlfriend
as her sister got married in June. As she is a first generation
Vitenamese-American, her family doesn't quite understand our
free-wheeling lifestyle and she needs ths time to try and
help them understand that it is ok she is not like them. So
I am giving her until Feburary before we embark in our next
adventure, this time into the mountains of Japan. We plan
on doing the English teaching thing and exploring Asia for
a few years.
This summer I have been working on the beach
at a summer camp and have been giving private spanish lessons.
In October we are roadtripping it north to Canada to visit
my mom's family and get a taste of what is had to offer for
us as a possible future home, as I have citizenship. Life
continues to be interesting and fun although LA is not the
place for me. Being here, however, has been quite an experience.
Be in touch. I may be up in Santa Barbara for Labor Day weekend,
so if you will be around give me your number and maybe we
can get together.

Mark,
We have been in Colombia now almost 3 weeks
and it is great. The people are so friendly and living is
cheap. We took a yacht from Colombia and stopped in the San
Blas Islands. The journey was 4 nights, but we made even with
the capitain breaking his sail. We then checked out Cartagena
and Santa Marta in the north as well as national park Tyrona
which has some of the best beaches I have ever seen. We met
people who spent 6 months in Brazil and say the Brazilian
beaches don't compare.
We also went up into the mountains for a few
days staying at a fruit farm. We have been taking buses south
and went to Bogota where we saw the gold musuem, which houses
thousands of gold pieces that the Spaniards stole from the
indians. Now we are in Cali, a city in the south where they
are having a festival and we will be here until after new
years. We hope to enter Ecuador soon after, but may have trouble
leaving as seems to be the trend. We have met quite a few
gringos who have been stuck for a long while.
I have tentative plans to come back to California
at the end of April as my girlfriend's sister is getting married
and she must be home. We are thinking of going to Japan to
teach in August and September. Life down here is good and
I highly recommend checking out Colombia if you haven't already.
