"I am a
student from your Global 124 class fall quarter
[2005]. I am currently on the east coast interning
at the Pentagon, [and] I love it. I work for the
Dept. of Defense for the Office of Secretary of
Defense, Public Affairs. I must admit, there is
a slight conflict of interest. I see Mr. Rumsfeld
about once a week. The Secretary is actually quite
short. Through the Norm Mineta Immersion Internship
Program, all expenses are paid for. ...I am taking
one class with Professor Colman McCarthy, Peace
Solutions. Thus far, I am enjoying my experience
and getting used to the cold weather."

"All the words
in the world could not describe in full the insight
and personal experience I gained from living, speaking,
becoming a part of a foreign culture. Not only did
it open my mind to a more global perspective, it also
gave me a deeper understanding of the different kinds
of people and cultures that exist outside of the United
States."

"Studying abroad, in Toulouse,
France, has given me the opportunity to learn about
European culture by immersing myself in it. Exposing
myself to different points of view is helping to expand
my knowledge of international affairs. I highly recommend
it to everyone in the Global Studies Major."
